Introduction of Summer Intern- Casey Everetts: Casey is our office administrative intern. She has been super helpful around the office and has attended multiple political events on behalf of Edgerton. Casey is one of 6 interns this summer. We have been able to get a lot of projects completed with all of their help that we wouldn’t have otherwise been able to do. Mayor Day added that not only does she do a great job in the office, but she was outside pulling weeds the other day! We appreciate her flexibility.

Watchman on the Wall: Joe Hinkle and Don Buchs are both present tonight as we recognize their many years of public service. Joe served on the fire department for 25 years, while Don was a Council member for 12 years. In the years since they served the Village, they have continued to “serve the community” by making suggestions, observations, giving ideas of ways to improve our Village. Mayor Day stated he likes to hear the people’s ideas when they contribute positively. Mr Buchs thanked everyone for the award. We have a good group of people doing a heck of a good job.

Administrator Update by Dawn Fitzcharles:

  • Read thank you cards from Eric Gruver for working with him to get the American Red Cross blood drive up and going. They were able to collect 20 units and he stated in the card “every time I come home I’m reminded how supportive Edgerton is.”
  • Also received a thank you card from Mainstreet Edgerton for receiving assistance from the Village team during the truck pull event, from all departments.
  • Homecoming this weekend- we have worked closely with Mainstreet to get things prepared for the activities this weekend; special shout out to the summer interns and all team members that have assisted getting the park and streets ready for Saturday
  • “Clemmy” awards will be Friday night at 7:00pm at the Public Library
  • Amanda Knecht successfully completed Key Accounts Certificate Program through the American Public Power Association, a highly sought after certification, we are excited to further develop our relationship with our industrial and commercial clients.

Fiscal Officer Update by Denise Knecht:

  • June 2025 financials
  • Credit card statements for July were not ready yet

ODD Brownfield payment: We need to accept the revenue from the ODD and issue the payment invoice to August Mack for the Edgerton Metals Brownfield remediation project. We receive reports and invoices, submit to ODD, ODD approves transaction and sends the money, we then remit payment to August Mack.

  • Motion to approve revenue receipt from Ohio Department of Development and issue payment for invoice #88068 to August Mack Environmental in the amount of $42,746.90 for the Edgerton Metals Brownfield Remediation Project (Edgerton Revitalization DEV-2022-193553) for project invoices through June 8, 2024:

VanAusdale questioned the payment and the process regarding the demolition of the Shelter House. In order to meet the timeframe of the project construction and because the grant agreement through MVPO was not complete yet, we used a different source of funding. The grant agreement and information through the original source (the landbank) that was demolition only has not been distributed. The bid is the same as what was submitted to Maumee Valley; the money is the same, how we are financing it is different. VanAusdale was also curious about “park seating upgrades” on the 7/16 bill’s list. We have approximately 14 wooden picnic tables that we will be replacing 4-5 at a time annually. Also, we will be doing further park updates in the future that includes installation from a contract. Before the end of the year we will roll right into the next grant application which funds a large portion of benches, trash cans, and dog waste stations that are speckled throughout the disc golf course and the park.

Street/Park Department employee reclassification: Devin Herman has served his probationary period, so we are asking to remove Devin from probation and to be placed on regular full-time employment. Devin has been an asset to our team and contributed his knowledge in multiple areas. He has also been the one spraying those pesky mosquitos in the evening.

  • Motion to reclassify Devin Herman from probationary to regular full-time street/park department employee:

Council Discussion:

Wallace questioned why the aerator at Miller Park is not running and stated there has been a lot of negative attention surrounding the pond on social media. Are we able to run that to avoid the algae and another “kill off” in the future? Dawn stated we have had professionals come in to look at the pond and she has been advised to NOT use the aerators in order to avoid a “flip”. The unfortunate part of the pond at Miller Park is that we are not the sole owner, there are MULTIPLE property owners. There have also been reports of someone dumping things into the pond and we are unsure what the product could be. It’s hard to get funding to take care of the pond because we are not the sole owner. We cannot apply for public funding when it is going to benefit the private sector. There are short-term options but ultimately we need cooperation from all owners. Fitzcharles stated she is not sure how to regulate the situation because it is quite peculiar. Wallace is worried about having an eye sore with the new building coming up. Mayor Day stated, “We all want to see it better than what it is.” Mayor Day will reach out to the owners for discussion.

Wallace would also like to know if we can get some type of schedule for the sprinklers that are being run uptown. Ed Bohn is doing that voluntarily, when he is available. He has been working with the other agencies in town such as summer lunch as well as the library in order to benefit the kids as best as possible and keep them active. Dawn also stated the kids have access to a sprinkler every week day through the Summer Lunch program as well as porch activities at the Methodist Church parsonage.

Summer Recreation Bulldog Bash was last week/weekend. The park was full so kudos to those involved in the process of upgrading the fields. The work, time and money spent/ put into the fields really showed. We have some very nice fields and facilities that realistically can benefit the whole town. The improvements that were made were very beneficial, especially after a couple of downpours. The field crew was able to recover and play ball.

Blinzler stated that there is a motorized bike flying up and down the sidewalks. Mayor Day told her to talk to the Chief of Police.

Bowsher wants to be made aware of projects such as the carving of the tree in front of Town Hall.

Gruver inquired about the ECC drawings. Dawn welcomed Jason to come to the preconstruction meeting on Thursday. Gruver is concerned primarily about the fire pit outside and the liability it may create.
