Business of the Year- Edgerton Village Market:

Kevin Taylor and his son Broc, were present to accept the plaque for Business of the Year from Mayor Day. Kevin took over the grocery store, formerly Kaisers, and has been in business with Edgerton Village Market for almost 5 years. A vital business in a community like ours is a grocery store and Kevin does a great job always providing deals that people from all around the area participate in. Kevin appreciates the support of the community and hopes to continue to grow and receive the report he has so far.

Industry of the Year- Edgerton Forge:

Mayor Day presented Chris Pearson, Edgerton Forge General Manager and Kiley Coffman, HR with the Industry of the Year plaque for 2023. Mayor Day appreciates the effort that the company puts into promoting their business and employees through social media and other ways and also admires their involvement in the community. Pearson stated the goal is to make Edgerton Forge the best organization that it can be.

Communications, Petitions, and Claims of Public– Conditional use permit for Fleo’s Flicks at 233 E Morrison:

2 years ago, Council approved a 2-year conditional use permit for Fleo’s Flicks. They are now requesting a permanent conditional use permit. This has been approved by the Planning Commission on 3/11/2024 and there have not been any complaints brought forth. Fitzcharles sees no reason to not approve.

Administrator Update by Dawn Fitzcharles:

  • Large Trash drop-off day is Saturday, April 13th from 8am-noon behind Town Hall. Proof of residency is required.
  • Arbor Day in the Village will be Friday, April 26, 2024. There will be 1 or 2 memorial trees planted and placed in the community.

Fiscal Officer Update by Denise Knecht:

  • Attended 2024 Local Government Conference March 26-28 in Columbus. This is a required compliance training.
  • March 2024 financials were emailed for review and passed along for signatures.
  • June 30th is expected day Auditor’s will be able to wrap up the biannual audit.

Police Chief Update by Ken Jacob:

  • Gun range project almost complete; 10-12 shed (special thanks to EAF gracious donation)
  • April 13, Edgerton and Edon Police Department sponsoring a “less lethal” class to have more and safer options.
  • Thinking about/working on getting a firearm training in place for Edgerton residents
  • You might notice new badges this month to recognize Autism awareness month
  • A Kunesh recently went to evidence training and would like to get K Kunesh into interrogation training this week if possible.

Natureworks: Each year we submit an application for Natureworks grant funding, generally in the form of a park project. We are not yet aware of the amount up for grabs yet as this is part of the Ohio General Assembly’s budget process. Applications are due by June 1st and awarded amounts typically range from $5,000-$25,000 with a 75/25% match. After discussion at the Park Board meeting, the suggestion is to apply for ADA seating around the disc golf course at Miller Park.

Wallace questioned where the dedication tree is going to be planted for Arbor Day this year. Mayor Day marked a spot north of the basketball court at St Mary’s playground/parking lot. It is a preliminary spot as utilities have not been located yet.

103 Industrial Drive: The bankruptcy attorney for 103 Industrial Drive has asked us about our interest in being a stalking horse bidder. We are looking for Council approval for permission for the Administrator and Mayor to negotiate the purchase agreement terms and conditions.
