Due to the date and time change of this meeting Council members did not receive 07.18.23 meeting minutes by email to review in order to approve. The above motion is tabled until the next meeting.

Mayor Update by Robert Day:

  • Welcomed special guests to meeting from Michigan here to spend the week with Mayor “Grandpa” Day
  • Presenting to Council a Police Chief recommendation, Kennith Jacob

Police Chief Hire- Ken Jacob comes from Williams County Sheriff’s office for almost 2 decades. Jacob resides in Blakeslee, has served as a sergeant, detective and is currently a K9 handler. He possesses a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and has completed several leadership courses, as well as a certified administrator with Spillman reporting system.

  • Motion to hire Kennith Jacob as probationary full-time Police Chief @ $70,000 annual salary with an appointment date of 07.24.2023, a start date of 08.04.2023 and honoring Jacob’s years of service:

Mayor Day swore in Mr Kennith Jacob as Police Chief. Jacob stated he looks forward to starting in Edgerton and working with the Edgerton team. He appreciates the support and has heard great things about the community and team.

Administrator Update by Dawn Fitzcharles:

  • Jeremy Wright has successfully completed Lineworker 1 training & has started on module 2 training. There are 4 levels of Lineworker education before you are eligible to apply for Journeyman

Council meeting time & date- There has been several discussions regarding the time & date of regular council meetings. The proposal is to change from 1st & 3rd Tuesday at 7pm to 1st & 3rd Wednesday at 5:30. This is the 1st reading and would begin with the 1st meeting of September if passed.

Council Discussion:

Lance Bowsher thanked the Village team for their involvement in the Homecoming events over the weekend.

Sharon Blinzler commented that she thought the parade went great and received compliments that it was the best parade in a while.
